We're not that stupid. Gullible is a more apt term, if we believe everything that President Obama is saying about the health reform bill. According to Betsy McCaughey - the former lieutenant governor of New York State and the prime debunker of Hillarycare - the president is lying when he says that those who like their present health care plan can keep it.
Ms. McCaughey says that you only have to get to Page 15 of the 1,018 page bill to understand that you will be forced to give up that plan that allows you to go to whatever doctor you select, whenever you like, or to see a specialist or get a diagnostic test.
The House and Senate want to establish a bureaucracy that will oversee a government insurance health plan. If you get your current coverage from an employer, they will switch you over to the government plan because it's cheaper for them to do so. Obamacare isn't about insuring the uninsured. It's about controlling all health care plans, even the ones that provide excellent coverage.
Ms. McCaughey was giving the lowdown on the bill on a radio talk show and it wasn't Air America. It was the Mark Levin Show on ABC radio and shows like his and Rush Limbaugh's are being threatened by liberals in Congress who want to restrict these broadcasts. Talk radio, conservative blogs, and Fox News are considered by the Obama administration to be the voice of the opposition and it's using tactics reminiscent of banana republics to quell the influence of these entities.
Americans are finally learning the truth about Obamacare through these sources of information and the administration has instituted an unheard of strategy once employed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. In essence, it's the old "Turn in your neighbors and report to the commissar," if you discover that they're disseminating unapproved information about Obamacare. The White House urges the public to e-mail reports to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) has accused the administration of using this e-mail address to compile an enemies list. Ms. McCaughey must definitely be on that list along with everybody questioning the deceit used to sell this abominable piece of legislation. So what can the average American do to stop this express train to socialism?
While it's admirable that the Tea Party coalition is managing to show up at town hall meetings in large numbers to challenge its representatives and senators, some gatherings have erupted in violence that is being portrayed by the leftist media as evidence that the majority in these crowds are extremists or wackos.
White House aides are coaching Democrats headed home on how to avoid these angry constituents by holding phone conferences rather than live town hall meetings. I guess they're running scared of the elderly protesters with walkers and canes that might start swinging away.
The speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, vilified the protesters by saying they were carrying signs with "swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care." Actually, what the hand-painted signs meant to suggest was that the Obama health plan resembled the Nazi programs of euthanasia and eugenics. The protesters have also been described by critics as being "well dressed," as if to imply that they were wealthy Republicans as opposed to being your average protester. This would be laughable if it weren't so frightening.
Here are my suggestions for battling this creeping takeover of our democratic society by diehard Marxists who think they know what's best for us. They don't. Most politicians are not capitalists. The majority are lawyers who've never tried a case in court. They've never run a business and most loathe the military that keeps this country safe.
